"Abide in Me, and I in you."

Smyrna Christian Fellowship (of Smyrna, TN) is a New Covenant ministry. This means several things:

    • We believe life's meaning and purpose for the Christian in this world is shaped by God's New Covenant reality (or "new creation") already begun through His Son, Jesus Christ (Matthew 26:28; Mark 14:24; Luke 22:20; 1 Corinthians 11:25; 2 Corinthians 3:6; 5:17; Galatians 6:15; Colossians 3:10-11; Titus 3:5-7; Hebrews 8:6, 8, 13; 9:15; 10:16; 12:24: Revelation 3:14; 21:5).

    • Closely related to this is New Covenant Theology. This approach views and treats the Bible as a magnifying glass designed to reveal more about Jesus Christ. Jesus said of the Scriptures, "they testify of Me" (John 5:39). And the Father said of his Son, "listen to Him" (Luke 9:35; cf. Luke 24:25-27; John 15:26; 17:26; Acts 3:24; Hebrews 1:2).

    • Because of God's New Covenant reality in Christ, we believe church meetings should be Simple, Unique and Christ-Centered. Each of these are explained more fully on this website (by clicking on the buttons below), but here is a summary of what we mean:

Simple
means our weekly meeting is patterned after the tradition of Christ, given through his apostles, for his church. Our format is very basic similar to a family potluck or holiday get-together for Bible study and discussion, fellowship and a meal, songs and prayers.

Unique
means we recognize and rely upon the Holy Spirit's ministry of giving people new life and spiritual gifts to manifest "Christ in you" (collectively) "the hope of glory" (Colossians 1:27; cf. John 3:3-8 and Titus 3:3-7). We encourage edifying participation by the whole body of Christ.

Christ-Centered
means the goal of our meeting is to abide in Christ, and for Him to abide in us individually and corporately (as a body) drawing our spiritual vitality and wisdom from Him, as living branches nurtured and sustained by the true Vine (John 15:1ff).

The New Covenant Paradigm:
Jesus Christ + His Bride (as "one flesh") is
the center, circumference & culmination of God's eternal
purpose, historical promises & fulfillments, and future blessings.
